Dealing with difficult & hazardous waste stream (worldwide) from a Czech start-up perspective
by Dr., Marek Nedoma
Plasma gasification has a "simple promise": don’t use fossils but electricity to create an intense heat source, convert difficult waste into syngas, and melt its inorganic fraction into slag. The engineering reality is less simple. Past projects have shown that demonstrating the chemistry is not the same as operating a reliable & economic plant. At Millenium Technologies, our question has therefore changed from "Does it work?" to "Where can it work reliably, at what scale, and for which wastes?" We are engineers rather than plasma physicists, and our work focuses on reactor development, real-wastes testing and transition from R&D to commerce. This presentation will introduce our technology and development journey, revisit past industry lessons on scale-up setbacks, share what our experiments have taught us, and explain why we see the strongest near-term case in smaller, difficult-to-treat waste applications. Practical engineering trade-offs & challenges, and the conditions required for plasma gasification to become commercially credible can be discussed during open discussion.
