Sustainable Electrochemical Systems Lab (SESL)
The Sustainable Electrochemical Systems Lab — SESL, led by Dr. Rui Gao, develops advanced materials and electrochemical processes for sustainable energy technologies. Our research focuses on the design of catalysts, membranes, and integrated electrochemical systems for CO2 conversion, hydrogen production, and related energy-conversion processes.
We aim to understand how material structure, interfacial chemistry, and transport phenomena determine electrochemical performance. By connecting fundamental chemistry with system-level optimization, SESL seeks to create efficient, scalable, and sustainable technologies that contribute to a clean and carbon-neutral energy future.
Our work is interdisciplinary, combining electrochemistry, materials chemistry, catalysis, membrane science, and process development. We welcome collaboration with researchers working in chemistry, materials science, chemical engineering, energy conversion, and sustainability.
